Emma Virginia Lucero

Emma Virginia Smith Lucero, 86, (known to her closest family and friends as Dolly) went to meet the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2011. She died in Lubbock, Texas, after an extended illness. She was born on April 5, 1925, to the late Eugenia Flores and Robert J. Smith and was raised by the late Rita and Ramon Flores, who were her beloved grandparents. Emma was united in marriage to the late Roger L. Lucero on March 13, 1943. She was a lifetime Catholic and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Emma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had a generous loving heart and a wonderful sense of humor. The greatest pride in her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent her life raising her children and caring for her grandchildren. Emma loved the Lord with all her heart and taught her children to love Jesus in the same way. She was very proud of the fact that she had a daughter and a son who graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and three others who attended. Her desire was that they obtain a Catholic Christian education. She also loved animals and plants. She had many special animals throughout her life and especially had a fondness for cats. She loved tending to her plants and watching them blossom. Emma was a military wife and loved traveling with her husband, Roger, the first years of their married life. She lived in various places throughout the United States and would fondly share these memories with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lucero; son, Richard Lucero; parents, Eugenia Flores and Robert J. Smith; grandparents, Rita and Ramon Flores; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Flores, Damian Lucero and Stephanie Dimas; and brother Raymond Martinez. Emma is survived by sisters Margaret Vallejos of Brighton, Colo.; Helen Sipp of Akron, Ohio; and Mary Josie Trujillo of Denver, Colo.; brother John Biggers of Colorado Springs, Colo; special aunt and uncle Mary Ulibarri of Santa Fe, N.M., and Jose Flores of Springfield, Virginia; sons and daughters: Jimmie Lucero and wife, Kathy, of Firestone, Colo.; Phillip and wife Jeong, of Aurora, Colo.; Angela Lucero of Lakewood, Colo.; Tim Lucero and wife, Mary Ann; Steve Lucero and wife, Leslie; Theresa Chavez and husband, Casimiro Floyd; and Carol Lucero and companion Ismael Duran, all of Las Vegas, N.M. Grandchildren: Lori (Brett); Jackie (Rodney); Jimmie Jr. (Shannon; Stacie (Scott); Cassandra (Adam); Christopher, Amanda, Mario (Stephanie); Emerald; Angelo (Julie); Jarrod (Twyla); Ryan (Brianna); Vance (Casey); Tiffani, Amor, Phil Jr. and Mathew. Great grandchildren: Justin (Antoinette); Isaiah; Elijah; Nevaeh; Brett Jr.; Avery; Owen; Justin; Derek; Donovan; Jadon; Kael; Jordan; Adam Jr.; Curtis; Hannah Faith; Anna Lea; Cara Lee; Nathan; Tristan; Cameron; Collin; Dylan; and Kaylee. Also surviving her are numerous other relatives and friends. Services for Emma will be held as follows: A visitation will be held all day Monday, April 25, at Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas until time of services. Rosary Devotional services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 25 at Immaculate Conception Church. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George Salazar as celebrant.
