Abel R. Gonzales, of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on January 9, 2023 at the age of 70 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on December 14, 1952.

Abel Graduated from West Las Vegas in 1972 and continued his education at Highlands University. He worked as Assistant Manager for Safeway in Taos. In 1988 Abel and his wife Merlyn opened Laguna Vista Quik Stop. Abel made many friends throughout his life, but the friends he made at Laguna were more than just friends, they were family. Abel was an avid Bronco fan which he had a love-hate relationship with.

He is preceded in death by his father Gilbert Gonzales, mother Arabella Romero Gonzales, brothers Tony Sisneros and John Gonzales, father-in-law and mother-in-law Levi and Tita Chavez, sister-in-laws Patsy Marquez, Diana Chavez and Doris Chavez, nieces Christi Edwards and Melissa Archuleta, great nephew Andres Chavez and special aunt Louisa Coca.

Abel is survived by his loving wife Merlyn, sons Michael Gonzales, Paul Gonzales (Stephanie), Abel Gonzales Jr. (Janice), and Matthew Gonzales (Rosa), grandchildren Gabriel Gonzales, Nathan Gonzales, Alexya Gonzales, Alyssa Gonzales, Annaliese Gonzales, Adrien Gonzales, Gabriella Gonzales and Isabel Gonzales, sister Tommie Baca (Casey), brothers Albert Gonzales (Bee), and Joseph Gonzales, brother-in-laws Julian Chavez, Lee Chavez (Crinda), Deacon Ernest Chavez (Darlene), Levi Chavez Jr. and Daniel Edwards. Sister-in-laws Gloria Gutierrez, Lorraine Tafoya (Robert), and Eileen Gallegos (Steve). Uncle Jerry Coca and many other family members.

Urn Bearer will be his son Michael. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren, Daniel Edwards, Charlie Kueffer, Ray Sisneros and Domingo Deniz.

Public Viewing will be Friday, January 13, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Rogers Mortuary Chapel 600 Reynolds Ave. Las Vegas, NM.

Rosary will be recited on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass to be conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Rob Yaksich as Celebrant both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM.

Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery Las Vegas, NM
