Obituary

"A.J." Alberto Jose Andres Aguilar

May 18, 1987 – September 27, 2023

"A.J." Alberto Jose Andres Aguilar, 36, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023. He was born on May 18th, 1987, to Pablo A. and Diana M. Aguilar in Las Vegas N.M.

A.J. graduated from Bridge Academy in May of 2008. After graduation, he continued to work at Bridge Academy with Bernt and Carol Winkel. Through Bridge Academy he developed a love for travel. He traveled to Singapore, Malaysia, the Maldives, and Mo'orea. In the States he traveled to Seattle, San Diego, where A.J. was able to swim with dolphins, and most recently to Washington D.C., where he enjoyed seeing the Pentagon and the Lincoln Memorial.

He worked for many years as a home health aide through Ambercare and he was also an independent contractor for RDC Courier Service, where he delivered medical supplies throughout Northern New Mexico. He recently delivered for Admiral Beverage Co. and A.J. also had his own snowplow business throughout the years, where he enjoyed helping family, friends, and neighbors.

A.J enjoyed all genres of music and attending rock concerts. He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors: 4-wheeling, BBQing, hanging out with family & friends at the lake, and target shooting. He had his grandpa Isidro's green thumb, so another love of A.J.'s was growing veggies in his green house. Most of all he had a very fun-loving and caring personality. He loved making us all happy and always had everyone laughing at his pranks.

A.J. had a beautiful smile that lit up any room he walked into, a mischievous laugh, and he gave the best hugs. A.J.'s true calling in life was caring for those he loved; we never needed anything because he took care of us all so well. If anyone needed help moving, getting wood, or fixing anything broken, A.J. was the first in line to help, and stayed until the job was done. He was the caretaker for Carol and Bernt Winkel for many years on their estate. The Winkel's considered him their adopted grandson. A.J also took care of his beloved Dad during his cancer treatments and was always trying to find ways to ease his suffering. A.J was the light of our family and will be sadly missed by his momma, sisters, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: His beloved Dad Pablo A. Aguilar, adopted Grandfather "Wink" Bernt Winkel, paternal grandparents: Jose P. Aguilar and Reneta Martinez; maternal grandparents: Isidro and Guadalupe Archuleta; Uncles: Joaquin Aguilar, Antonio Aguilar, Joe Barela, George Archuleta, and Johnny Martinez; Aunts: Antonia Aguilar, Eve Martinez, and Carol Aguilar; Cousins: Raymond Aguilar and Barbara Fernandez; Godparents: Eddie and Josie Gallegos; and his beloved pet, Maxi.

A.J. is survived by his Momma Diana Aguilar of Albuquerque, N.M.; Big sister Desirée Maddux (Benjamin), Nieces Dayanera (Tomas) & Arilyn Maddux all of Sapello N.M.; Baby Sister Michelle Maddux of Jarales N.M.; Stepmom Lupe Apodaca and sisters: Michelle Apodaca (Louie), Victoria Penix (Toby), and Nonnah Sedillo (Garred) and families all of Las Vegas N.M.; Paternal Grandmother Ramona Salas of Albuquerque N.M.; Adopted Grandmother Carol Winkel; Aunts: Dorothy Maes (Mike), Bernadette Montaño (Alan Sr.), Theresa Sims (Danny), Loretta (Silviano Jr.) of Albuquerque N.M., Luella Salas (fiancée & A.J.'s close friend, Turtle) of Placitas, NM, and Liz Zamora of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Uncles: Ruben Lucero (Margaret) of Las Vegas N.M., "Jay" Isidro Archuleta (Jennifer) of Encinal, N.M., Carlos Aguilar (Frances), and Junior Aguilar (Lura) of Albuquerque N.M. Best friends: Katie Winkel, Jeremiah "Kong" Fresquez & sons of Mineral Hill, N.M.; Dear Friends: Katrina Gaines and son Jacob Smith of Las Vegas N.M.; beloved pets Mr. Shewas and Mr. Wink; and numerous extended family and friends.
