Alan Mark Smith, born November 15, 1951, departed this world on March 11, 2025. He had been a resident of Las Vegas for 50 years, and is survived by his sisters Sandra Poppers and Barbara Smith of Las Vegas, Danelle Smith (Jeannie) of Rociada, and Pat Fauquet and husband Ron of Fairfax Station, VA, nieces Tania Slaton and husband Gordon, Monique Baroudi and husband Mazen, Nicole Caruso and husband Joe, Courtney Horne and husband Andy, and nephew Brandon Fauquet and wife Stephanie, 11 great nieces and nephews, two great great nephews, all of Virginia, as well as numerous cousins and good friend Loren Kaysing. He was predeceased by father Richard Earl Smith and mother Rosemary Yaklin Glenn.
Alan was born and spent his early childhood in Carlsbad, NM, and completed his formative years in Corpus Christi, graduating from Richard King High School in 1969, before moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where he majored in astronomy. After moving to Las Vegas, he worked in construction for many years, ending that career after helping to build K-Mart, and worked at the store as the receiving manager until it closed. Then, he became business partners with sister Barbara, and worked with her at Advanced Laser Recycling remanufacturing printer toner cartridges until his retirement.
Alan became a computer enthusiast and gamer early in the history of computer games, and played through numerous eras ranging from his first Amiga through numerous DOS-based systems that he built himself. He was later a Wii aficionado and Guitar Hero. He was also an avid hiker in his earlier years, and climbed Hermit's Peak more times than he bothered counting.
Cremation has taken place and family and friends will gather to honor his memory and scatter his ashes at El Porvenir this summer.
