Alfred S. Herrera, Jr., age 82, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 in Las Vegas, NM.
He was born on October 11, 1930 in Las Vegas, NM to the late Alfredo Herrera and Della Rudolph.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and Ribbon and also the Honorable Discharge Button.
He retired from the New Mexico State Highway Department as a Equipment Inspector after 36 years of employment.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a member of the Elks Club and was a Master ASE Certified Auto Mechanic. He was a very talented artist and he enjoyed leather crafts, welding, camping, fishing, weight lifting and dining out.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Alfredo and Della Herrera; first spouse: Adelina Herrera; sister: Anna Berry.
He is survived by his loving wife: Mary Rose Herrera of Las Vegas, NM; son: Alfred Michael Herrera and fiancee Rose Jaramillo of Albuquerque, NM; son: Anthony Roland Herrera and wife Charlene Mae Flores-Herrrera of Las Vegas, NM; daughter: Martha Ann Bieser and husband Doug of Fountain Valley, CA; sisters: Connie Edwards, Helen Roybal and Stella Bartone all of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Paul Bieser and wife Kymberli of Garden Grove, CA; Alicia Bieser of Fountain Valley, CA; Jonathan Herrera; Amanda Herrera both of Albuquerque, NM; Marissa Herrera; Mariah Herrera both of Las Vegas, NM; great-grandchild: Isabella Grace Herrera of Albuquerque, NM; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rosary Services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 9:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as Celebrant. Interment will be held at 12:45pm at National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM with the following serving as Casket Bearers: Mark Baca, Jonathan Herrera, Glen Roybal, Jimmy Maestas, Paul Bieser and Larry Tafoya. . Serving as honorary casket bearers: Gary Roybal, Ricky Roybal, Javier Mendez, Freddie Gomez, Tony Gomez, Doug Bieser, Manny Sanchez, Judo Berry and Marcello Cedillo.
