Obituary

Our beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, Amity Francine Maes, 34, of Mora, New Mexico, was born on March 3, 1992, in Englewood, Colorado, to Dion P. Maes and Jessie A. Valdez. Amity tragically passed away on August 16, 2026, in Mora, New Mexico.

Amity was baptized into the Catholic faith in Colorado, where she spent much of her early life. She attended Colorado High School Charter and graduated with the Class of 2010. Amity had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting for antlers, fishing, playing in the river, and spending time with her family and friends.

Amity held a very special love for Mora, New Mexico, and always yearned to be there, surrounded by her family and her many, many friends. Mora was a place that truly felt like home to her.

Amity was a jack of all trades. If she didn’t know how to do something, she would learn how and get it done. She was a strong, hardworking woman who was never afraid to get her hands dirty. Amity worked for Envision Group Construction, helping repair and replace fencing throughout The Mora & Cleveland area that had been damaged by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire. She took pride in her work and in helping restore the communities and land affected by the devastating fire.

Above all, Amity will be remembered for her caring heart, loving spirit, and selfless nature. Her children were an incredibly important part of her life, and she loved each of them deeply. They were a source of love, pride, and joy that she carried with her always. Everyone knew Amity as the kind of friend who would give you the shirt off her back and the shoes off her feet just so you wouldn’t have to go without.

Amity brought creativity and joy into everything she did and always found a way to make those around her smile and laugh, because bringing happiness to others brought happiness to her. Her goofy sense of humor and playful personality made her unforgettable. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved and asked for nothing in return. Her warmth, kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.

Amity was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Francine and Antonio Maes; maternal grandparents, Mary and Belarmino Chavez; uncle, Duane F. Maes; and aunt, Elsie Sena.

Amity is survived by her mother, Jessie A. Valdez (Jaime Valdez Valles); father, Dion P. Maes; sister, Iris D. Maes; brother, Jhovon D. Valdez; sons, Jayden, Dwayne, Ambrosio, Alesio, Elijah, and Azayah; daughters, Aspen and Analisa; as well as many other beloved relatives and friends.

A Rosary will be recited at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, New Mexico, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gertrude Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Mora Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers Gabriel Griego, Dale Maes, Kenny Valencia, Jhonvon Valdez, Mouise Carlos Romero and Lorenzo Medina. Honorary pallbearers  nephew Deamian ,sons Jayden and Dwayne.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, kindness, and support they have received during this incredibly difficult time. They look forward to gathering with family and friends to celebrate Amity’s life, share the memories she gave them, and honor the lasting legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind.

Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Avenue, Las Vegas, New Mexico 87701, 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
