Obituary

Anna passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas New Mexico. Anna was born and raised in the community that she cherished and served so faithfully throughout her life.
Anna retired after 29 years of dedicated service with the West Las Vegas schools, and the New Mexico behavioral Institute. Her work was more than a career. It was a calling that brought her lifelong friendships and the opportunity to touch many lives.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Stephanie Leger and companion Les Montoya, her two adored grandsons, Stephen Montano and wife Mikayla and Christian Lovato; and her precious great grandchildren Kaleb and Zayda Montano. She also leaves behind a special nephew James Benavidez, whom she raised and loved as her own. She also had a special place in her heart for Jessica Montano and Krystal Montoya Magallanes (Dan), whom she loved like daughters. Anna is also survived by her dear siblings, Mary Flores, Priscilla Martinez, Carla Benavidez, and husband Leroy, Alex Aragon and wife Debbie, and Paul Aragon and lifelong friend Alice Abeyta (sister).
Although Anna had only one child, she was a mother figure too many, she had numerous nieces and nephews who she loved deeply and treated as her own always offering her guidance, care and unconditional love, her family was the center of her world. Ann was also incredibly proud to be a Godmother too many and cherished each of her godchildren with all her heart. She had a heart of gold-always loving, always giving. She found joy in watching her novellas, doing crossword puzzles, scratchers, reading her novels, caring for others, cooking meals filled with love and creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt like family.
Anna's legacy of love, generosity, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her, she will be deeply missed and forever remembered and loved.
Cremation has taken place and a rosary and funeral mass will be held in her honor on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 9 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows church with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant. Burial of cremains will follow at San Jose cemetery, with the reception afterward at Buffalo Hall.
