Anthony Jude Romero, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of his family, passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 84. Anthony was born on June 12, 1942, to his mother, Carmen Gibson, and was the stepson of Edwin Gibson. He was raised with love and devotion by his grandmother, Ponciana Romero, who held a very special place in his life. Anthony attended New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts degree and a master's degree in business.
He dedicated 25 years of his professional life to Luna Vocational Technical Institute as a teacher. Through his years in the classroom, Anthony shared his knowledge and experience with his students and took great pride in their education and success. After 25 years of dedicated service as an educator, he retired from LVTI. On January 27, 1973, Anthony married Perla Estrada. Their marriage of more than 53 years was built upon love, devotion, family, and a life shared together. Anthony was the beloved father of Jude Romero and Janelle Ortero and her husband, Armenio. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Janice Conway and her husband, Keeton; Jennaé Romero; Isabella Romero; and Armenio Ortero Jr. His family grew to include two treasured great-grandchildren, Evie Conway and Kieron Conway. Anthony also shared an especially close bond with his brothers-in-law, Dan Estrada and his wife, Lillian, and Philip and his wife, Cassandra.
They cherished him as a brother, and the love, friendship, and bond they shared with him throughout the years were deeply treasured. Anthony was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, and his faith was an important part of his life.
Anthony was truly a people person who loved his community and the people in it. He rarely went anywhere without greeting someone he knew and taking time to visit and share a conversation. He genuinely treasured the friendships and bonds he formed with others.
Above all, Anthony was devoted to his family. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family, and was a wonderful uncle and great-uncle. Anthony will be remembered for his love of family, faith, friendship, and the special way he connected with others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 9:00am funeral mass will follow both services ill be at Immaculate conception church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at St. Anthony cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following as pallbearers Dan Estrada, Phillip Estrada, Jesse Estrada, Donny Estrada, Troy Estrada and Arminio Otero, Honorary pallbearers will be Ovidio Romero, Rick Martinez, Paul Ortiz, Jose Estrada, Ralph Romero and Arminio Otero Jr.
