Arturo G. Gonzales, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born on October 29, 1938 in Los Valles de San Augustin, New Mexico to Rosendo Gonzales and Martina Gonzales.
He went to school at Menaul High in Albuquerque, NM before he went to serve in the United States Navy from 1957-1962. He worked at the New Mexico State Hospital as an attendant and barber. He also worked for The Railroad as a mechanic and was also a heavy equipment operator and welder for The Highway Department. He went to welding school in California, and went Luna Community College for Art and Wood Works. He also went to New Mexico Highlands University for Art as well.
Arturo was a lifetime rancher and farmer, who loved riding horses. He loved to make art and jewelry. He was a jokester and loved to make people smile and laugh.
Arturo is preceded in death by his parents Rosendo and Martina Gonzales; sister, Josie Contreras and husband Joe; sister, Sophie Ortega and husband Joe; brother, Lorenzo Gonzales; brother, Rosendo Gonzales Jr., and great-granddaughter, Naveah Rose Johnson.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of the family home of 56 years Josefina Gonzales, his children; Earl Gonzales, Regina Valdez (James), Martina Gonzales-Johnson (Stoney), Beverly Gonzales (Daniel), Agnes Gonzales-Montaño (Johnny), Clyde Gonzales (Kayleigh), Miranda Gonzales (Julius), Arthur Gonzales (Julie), James Gonzales (Sophie), Arleen Rovere, Doreen Vargas, 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Bernardo Gonzales (Lillie), Mary Ludi (Leonard) and David Gonzales (Anna Mae); sister-in-law, Eva Gonzales and 2 special nieces Joanne Gonzales and Kathy Telles. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 6:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 9:00 am also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Fr. Rob Yaksich officiating.
Interment will take place on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm at The Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico with full military honors and the following serving as pallbearers; Jacob Gonzales, Bryan Gallegos, Steven Lujan, Johnny Arguello Jr, Shane Arguello, Juan Montaño, Caleb Gonzales, Drake Diaz. Honorary bearers will be the remaining grandchildren and great grandchildren.
