Obituary

Arturo R. Romero also known by generations of alumni of the Mora Independent Schools as Mr. Romero, passed away peacefully at his home on December 19, 2025 amongst his loved ones.

Arturo was born in 1930, in Mora, NM to Arturo Jose Romero and Sofia Vigil Romero.

Arturo served our country honorably in the US Navy, serving in the Korean War on the landing ship tank (LST) USS DeKalb County LST 115. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 114, and served on the Mora Mutual Water & Sewage board.

Arturo raised his family on, and ran the family ranch in addition to being employed for 34 years by the Mora Independent Schools as both an educator and as an administrator, serving as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent.

Arturo is preceded in death by his parents, sister Consuelo (Connie) Montaño, nephew Paul Montaño, nephew Flosha Sanchez, nephew Sean Montano, and grandson Andrew Cruz.

Arturo is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Druscilla Romero; sister Marcella Dineen (Harold) daughters Anita Linson (Spike), DeeDee Hart (Brett), Tish Cruz (Andrew), son A J Romero (Cecilia), niece Breena Tafoya (Lawrence), nephew Emilio Sanchez, niece Leanna Montaño, and nephew Javier Montaño.

Surviving grandchildren include Christine Scott (Eric), Christopher Cruz (Kelly), Devin Hart, Kyra Hart, Annie Espinoza (Adrian), and Jake Romero.

Surviving great grandchildren include Isabella Espinoza, Ronan Espinoza, Amora Espinoza, Eva Cruz, Elijah Guzmán, Alaina Cruz, Avalyn McGrory, Caelyn McGrory, Andrew Cruz, Sam Scott, Adrienne Huffman, and Benjamin Huffman.

Services for Arturo are on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas, NM with subsequent burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
