In loving memory of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, we share the passing of Aurora Lucero Duran, 90, born July 17th of 1936, life-long citizen of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Aurora retired after 25 years as a Social Worker at the NM State Hospital. She then worked an additional ten years as a secretary at Immaculate Conception Parish. Aurora dedicated many years volunteering in the church in various capacities: Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education Catechist, offertory collections management (team member), Eucharistic Adoration, and Parish office assistance.

In October of 2014, Aurora received the St. Francis of Assisi Parishioner Award at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis in Santa Fe. Pastors from across the archdiocese nominate one parishioner each year to honor dedicated volunteers for their exemplary service to their respective parishes. Parishioners are selected for embodying a joyful spirit, simplicity, and selfless community service.

Preceded in death by her parents, Antonia Gonzales and Perciliano Lucero of San Jose, NM; husband Gilbert Eloy Duran of El Porvenir, NM; daughter, Lorraine Teresa Duran of Las Vegas, NM, and sister Marie Saavedra of Las Vegas, NM.

Survived by her daughter, Stella Marquez and son-in-law Deacon Marvin Marquez of Santa Rosa, NM; son Gilbert Norman Duran of Las Vegas, NM; daughter Carla Garcia and son-in-law Gary Garcia of Tucson, Arizona; and daughter Anna Wolf and son-in-law Mike Wolf of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister, Mary Padilla and husband Albert Padilla of Las Vegas, NM; and her brother-in-law Flavio Bernie Duran and wife Dora Duran of Las Vegas, NM.

Aurora Duran cherished her grandchildren: Julia and husband Ben Kalminson of Truth or Consequences, NM; Jeremiah Marquez and wife Jillian of Lexington, South Carolina; Jamie Lorraine Frietze and husband Jared of Las Cruces, NM; Jonathon Marquez and wife Janelle of Georgetown, Texas; Analisa Puett and husband Chaz of Sydney, Australia; Celia Joos and husband Jesse of Flagstaff, Arizona; Amalia Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona; Daniel Garcia and Lucas Garcia of Tucson, Arizona.

Ms. Duran adored her great grandchildren, Haley Mosely, Rudy Mosely, Maddie Frietze, Justin Frietze, Ryan Frietze, Ethan Kalminson, Isabella Kalminson, Jude Marquez, Micah Marquez, Christian Marquez, Charlie Puett, Sunnie Puett, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary, followed by a Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Thursday, August 6, at 1:30pm. Internment, following mass, will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery with the following serving as Pallbearers, Daniel Garcia, Lucas Garcia, Ben Kalminson, Ethan Kalminson, Rudy Mosely, Gary Garcia, Mike Wolf.
