Barbara Viola Barela, 71, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Las Vegas, NM.

Barbara was a resident of Santa Fe, NM. She enjoyed gardening for most of her life, and she had a true talent for creating beautiful spaces filled with her love. She attended church regularly and always encouraged her family and friends to turn to God and say prayers. Her faith was a beautiful thing to behold. She loved going to the movies or just watching one at home (If she could just sit long enough.) Most of all she loved her family. She enjoyed going out to eat, watching her great grandkid's games, playing with her great grandchildren, talking to her family on the phone, and supporting them in any way she could. We will truly miss her, but find peace in knowing she is Home with our Lord.

Barbara was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 12, 1951 to Jose Barela and Maria Candelaria Apodaca who precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her daughter Jennifer Catanach, her former Spouse/friend Robert Strait and her son-in-law John Andrew Baca and her loving pets Chloe, Spike and Reba.

Barbara is survived by her daughter: Regina Catanach from Las Vegas, NM; her son: Bobby Strait (Megan Spinn) from Austin TX; her brothers: Jose Barela from Albuquerque, NM; Daniel Barela from Phoenix, AZ; her granddaughter: Tracy Jenee Arguello (John) from Las Vegas, NM; great grandchildren Lily Arguello, Jake Arguelllo, Sophie Arguello, Anthony Arguello and Lacy Arguello all of Las Vegas, NM. Special Niece: Maria Barela and her children Marcos Barela, and Adrianna Barela from Santa Fe, NM; and her special friends:  Mena, Marta, Irene. and her loving pets Chloe, Spike and Reba.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cristo Rey Church in Santa Fe, NM.

Mass will immediately follow on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m at Cristo Rey Church with Father John Cannon serving as Celebrant.  With the following serving as Pallbearers; John Arguello; Bobby Strait; Marcos Barela; Jenee Arguello; Megan Spinn and Jake Arguello. Honorary Pallbearers will be her brothers: Jose Barela and Daniel Barela.

Burial of cremains will be held at a later date at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
