Barbara Gail Marshall, 88, of Albuquerque and Raton, New Mexico, went home to her Heavenly Father on April 23, 2026.
Barbara was born on June 25, 1937, to her loving parents, John Mayer Haberl and Helen Lavella Biggs. She began a lifetime of faith and service at an early age as an active member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving as Worthy Advisor in the Las Vegas, New Mexico chapter.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from New Mexico Highlands University, where she was a member of the Delta Rho chapter of Delta Zeta sorority.
Barbara was an esteemed educator who taught English in Tularosa and Hobbs, New Mexico, and Midland, Texas, before moving to Albuquerque. She taught for Albuquerque Public Schools until her retirement. Her career was marked by high expectations and a deep personal commitment to her students.
Barbara was devoted to her family, sharing love, laughter, and her values with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. While she deeply loved her children—Elizabeth Ann, Ivan Michael, and Vickie Irene—she especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From long summer vacations exploring the Southwest to special holiday celebrations, Barbara invested her time and energy wholeheartedly in her family.
A woman of deep faith, Barbara remained an active member of her faith community throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the Praise and Worship Center in Albuquerque and was deeply committed to her congregation. For many years, she led an annual Angel Tree program, providing gifts to children of incarcerated parents. Her weekly Bible study was a source of strength and fellowship. She supported her church, missionaries, and charitable organizations in many ways, including preparing meals, sending newsletters, creating calendars and worship programs, and giving generously. She also treasured time with her friends Rolla Scannell, Joan Donaldson, and others in her church and Bible study community.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Haberl; her father, John Haberl; her brother, Brooks Haberl, and his wife, Gladys Haberl; her brother-in-law Robert Bahur and her great-grandson, Brian Oddo-Brown.
She is survived by her brother, Arthur Haberl; her sisters, Celina Stertz (Tom Stertz) and Joan Bahur; her children, Beth Deakin (Art Deakin), Mike Marshall (Barbie Marshall), and Vickie Rothlisberger; her grandchildren, Deidre Barnes (Marion Barnes), Melissa Brown, Mark Conklin, Casey Shaner (Evan Shaner), Matthew Marshall, Kristi Lyon (Josh Lyon), Jennifer Whitlock (Jacob Whitlock), Jacob Rothlisberger (Shanshan Rothlisberger), and Josiah Rothlisberger (Rachel Rothlisberger); her great-grandchildren, Douglas Brown, Katie Brown, Brittany Shaner, Trevor Shaner, Ashley Marshall, Cy Marshall, Malachi Marshall, Jori Lyon, Tierney Whitlock, Tristan Whitlock, Abigail Rothlisberger, Able Rothlisberger, Hudson Rothlisberger, and Sadie Rothlisberger; and her great-great-grandchildren, Kyle Brown and Scarlett Brown.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Masonic Cemetery with following serving as pallbearers Mike Marshall, Matt Marshall, Josh Lyon, Art Deakin, Vern Dorris and Cy Marshall.. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Praise and Worship Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
