Benancio C. Trujillo, 94, of Chacon, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026. Born on September 15, 1932, in Chacon, Benancio was born to Juan Ignacio Trujillo and Delfinia Trujillo and remained deeply connected to the land, community, faith, and traditions that shaped his life.

Benancio was a man who believed in hard work, responsibility, respect, and doing things the right way. He spent his life working with his hands and providing for his family. He worked for 30 years with Mora Independent Schools, where he eventually retired. He was also a lifelong cattle rancher and farmer, tending to the land and livestock that were such an important part of his life. In his younger years, Benancio worked as a wildland firefighter and also spent time working on the railroad in Wyoming.

Benancio was a lifelong Catholic and a devoted member of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Mora, New Mexico. His faith was an important part of his life and was woven into the values he passed down to his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vidilia Trujillo; his sons, Bernardo “Nio” Trujillo and Alfonso “Alfie” Trujillo; his daughter-in-law, Luisita “Joann” Martinez; and his parents, Juan Ignacio Trujillo and Delfinia Trujillo.

He is survived by his sons, Ernesto Trujillo and Louis Trujillo, both of Chacon, New Mexico; his daughters-in-law, Sandra Trujillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Rosalee Trujillo of Mora, New Mexico; his grandchildren, April Trujillo, Sharlene Fernandez, Alfonso Trujillo, and Frankie Lee “Kika” Trujillo; and his great-grandchildren, Christopher Bernal, Aliana Trujillo, Ashley Martinez, Fernando Martinez, and Logan Fernandez.

The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Margarito Gallegos for the love, care, companionship, and support he provided to Benancio during the final years of his life. His kindness and dedication meant so much to Benancio and to the entire family. We will always be grateful for the time, patience, and care he gave to him, and for being there when Benancio needed someone by his side.

Benancio leaves behind more than a family; he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, perseverance, faith, family, and lessons that will continue to be passed down through generations. Though his voice and presence will be deeply missed, the stories, traditions, values, and memories he created will remain a part of his family forever.

He was a man who lived a long and full 94 years, rooted in the land he loved and surrounded by the people and traditions that mattered most to him.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 7:00pm, funeral mass will follow on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 10:00am both services will be held at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, NM with Father Dale Craig S.O.L.T. as celebrant. Burial of cremains will follow at the Chacon Cemetery in Chacon, NM.
