On August 19, 2026, the Lord welcomed Benerito Gallegos into His Kingdom of Heaven. He was born on April 14, 1943, in El Balsofete, New Mexico, located near Maes, New Mexico A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

He was a passionate cowboy that valued ranching, singing at fiestas and parishes, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for being a College Education Professor, a New Mexico Music Artist/Musician with The Los Charros Music Group, his long-time work on ranches, a deep love of horses and cattle, his traditions, his faith, and his dedication to his wife and son.

He was preceded in death by his father Frank Gallegos, his mother Maria Maestas Gallegos, his son Chris Gallegos, and many family members.

Benerito is survived by his wife Theresa Gallegos, and son Santiago Gallegos. family and friends.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico with the funeral mass to follow. Interment will follow the mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 12 Gallegos Road, Las Vegas, NM with the following serving as pallbearers: Joaquin Salazar, Steve Sanchez, Junior Sanchez, Joe Toh, Lino Gallegos, and Herman Archuleta. Honorary casket bearers will be Alfredo Maestas, Tommy Gallegos, George Medina, Ron Lopez, Tommy Archuleta, Ronnie Archuleta, Johnny Gomez, James Jaramillo, Mel Vigil, Bryan Saiz, and Ralph Romero.
