Benjamin R. Vigil, age 80, a lifelong resident of Mora, NM, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Mora, NM on February 2, 1942, to the late Flavio P. Vigil and Charlotte G. Vigil. He was united in marriage to Josephine M. Vigil on February 25, 1963, in Mora, NM and was a member of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Mora, NM.

Benjamin was a loving husband, dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, devoted son, brother, uncle and loyal friend. He was a source of love, light and strength to his family and friends. He diligently and compassionately served the community of Mora, NM and surrounding areas as the Manager of La Jicarita Telephone Cooperative for 38 years. While there, he was one of the key players who helped bring television service to the Mora Valley. He was committed to La Jicarita's mission and always gave his customers the highest level of service and respect they deserved.

Benjamin really enjoyed cheering on the Mora Rangers and Rangerettes basketball team and loved attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events. Known as the pioneer of golf in Mora, he spent many days on the golf course with his family and friends. To all who knew him, Benjamin was a hardworking and generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. There are no earthbound words to express how very much he was loved or how very much he will be missed.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents: Flavio P. and Charlotte G. Vigil; in-laws: Ernest and Jeannine Martinez; brothers: Doroteo "Teo" Vigil, Robert Vigil, Obed Vigil, Frank Vigil and Louie Aragon; brothers-in-law: Glen Martinez and Lawrence Martinez; sisters-in-law: Francine Maes, June Vigil and Stella Vigil.

He is survived by his loving and compassionate wife: Josephine M. Vigil of Mora, NM; son: Dante Vigil wife Theresa of Mora, NM; son: Darryl Vigil of Albuquerque, NM and daughter: Danette Vigil-Trujillo husband Jeff of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Jacquelyn Sanchez husband Marco of Mora, NM; Jeannine Montgomery husband Cliff of Albuquerque, NM; Jaynae Vigil fiancé Jordan of Albuquerque, NM; Krista Koester husband Jacob of Broomfield, Colo; Mitchell Vigil wife Camaree of Albuquerque, NM; JJ Trujillo fiancé Alyssa of Albuquerque, NM and Jennifer Trujillo boyfriend Nate of Albuquerque, NM; 10 great grandchildren; brother: Charles Vigil wife Lita of Mora, NM; and sisters-in-law: Rebecca Vigil of Albuquerque, NM; Eleanor Hostetter of Santa Fe, NM; Margie Aragon of Denver, Colo; Marian Olivas husband J.D. of Mora, NM; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Martinez wife Patricia of Las Vegas, NM and Leon Martinez of Albuquerque, NM; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 7:00p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 10:00a.m. Both services will be conducted at St. Gertrude the Great Church in Mora, NM.

Serving as casket bearers: Mitchell Vigil, JJ Trujillo, Flavio Vigil, Leonard Vigil, Tyler Martinez and Keith Griego. Serving as honorary bearers will be his remaining grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Interment will follow at the Mora Cemetery in Mora, NM.
