It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of our beloved Bennie Sanders. He passed away at his home on January 11, 2025.

Bennie was born on March 6, 1938 in Tyler, Texas to Autry and Willie Mae Sanders and was raised in Artesia, New Mexico from the age of 5.

Bennie retired from the Behavioral Health Institute as a certified Recreational Therapist in 1988. While he was there, he also was called upon to work with various police departments throughout the state on how to approach and work with mentally ill individuals. He was a lifelong member of the Lions Club where he was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow. During his younger years here in Las Vegas, he played in the softball league acquiring the nickname "The Rocking Chair Catcher". He was always quick with a joke on a story. Bennie will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Autry and Willie Mae Sanders.

Bennie is survived by his wife of 33 years Maryanne Sanders; daughters: Sherri Sanders and Cheryl Sanders; grandson: James Sanders.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 11:00am with Pastor James Vaughn as officiant at Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas, NM.
