Bersebe Ellen "Bessie" Sanchez Madrid was born on January 02, 1940 to Jose and Antonia Sanchez in Watrous, New Mexico. Her husband, Jimmy Madrid passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Antonia Sanchez; her children, Rudy Conway and Denise Perez and two grandchildren, Brian Garcia and Patricia Sanchez-Marron and two brothers, Albert Dominguez and Joseph Sanchez. Also, two sister-in-law's, Amelia Sanchez and Maria Sanchez, brother in laws Leo Archuleta and Leroy Roy.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Michael Donald Sanchez (Irma) of Watrous, NM and Jeffrey Sanchez (Lorraine) of Commerce City, CA, and Tenica Conway of Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren: Monica Garcia of Watrous, NM, Liz Garcia (Ivan) of Las Vegas, NM, Michael Sanchez Jr. (April) of Albuquerque, NM, Rebecca Garcia of Santa Fe, NM, Joshua Conway of Thoreau, NM, Alexandria Montoya (Alvin) of Las Vegas, NM, Germal Cardenas (Aaron) of Lynnwood, CA, Audrey Yellowbird (Jay) of Chino, CA, Juliana Perez-Anguiano of Las Vegas, NM, Elaine Gavilanes (Richard) of Palmdale, CA and Marissa Sanchez (Miguel) of Commerce City, CA. Last but not least a great grandson she raised Gabriel Luna of Albuquerque, NM. She had numerous great grandchild, great great grandchild and nieces and nephews. Also, surviving her are her siblings: Toby Sanchez (Irene), Ernestine Sanchez and Priscilla's Archuleta all of Watrous, NM, Julia Roy of Wagon Mound, NM, Pablo Sanchez (Angela) and Geraldine Martinez (Mark) both of Las Vegas, NM, Gilbert Sanchez of Derby, KS and sister-in-law Tillie Dominguez of Watrous, NM.
Bessie attended schools in Cerrillos, Colmor and Robertson high school. She relocated to California, and there she was employed by Community Hospital in Huntington Park, California. Upon returning to New Mexico she became employed at the Felicians Sister Convent Retirement home for priest and nuns. While working there she exhibited compassion and warmth for those under her care.
Bessie would dress very fashionable and stylish as kept up with the today's fashion. She enjoyed spending time at the casino and purchasing her lottery tickets. She crocheted making baby blankets for grandchildren. Also, it must be noted that she loved her grandchildren and was loyal despite any misgivings they may have had. Her vacations from California were to reconnect with her family, and she would come to pick pinion and purchase green chili. She never knew a stranger as she would open her doors to those in need. Lastly, Bessie was a believer in her faith in God.
Rosary will be held at Rogers Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 6:00pm. Burial will be held at a later date.
