Betty Gerdes Goke of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully in her home on October 28, 2023, at the age of 81.
She is preceded in death by her Son Paul David Vigil, Father Pedro Ciddio, Mother Antonia Lovato, sisters Maria (Lily) Sena, Francesca (Frances) Ciddio, and brother Tony Lovato.
Betty is survived by her Husband Albert Goke of Las Vegas. Four children, Joseph Lucero (Andrie) and Richard Vigil (Donna) of Las Vegas, Yolanda Gallegos of Flowery Branch, GA and Monique Gerdes of Las Vegas. Nine Grandchildren, Miquella Escobar, Joseph (JD) Lucero (Georgette), Felicia Montoya (Daniel), Adam Lucero (Andrea), Brandi Bell (Brandon), Brittany Turner (Ryan), Brooke Vigil, Merrissa Giddens (Stephen) and Deandra Gerdes; along with twelve great-grandchildren. She leaves behind one sister and one brother: Martha Griego (Johnny) and Carlos (Chemo) Ciddio.
Betty was born December 11, 1941 in Las Vegas, NM. Betty attended IC Catholic School and was a 1960 graduate of West Las Vegas. After graduation she resided in Santa Cruz, CA from 1961-1972, in which time she was married to David Vigil who was her high school sweetheart. She returned to Las Vegas NM in 1972 and was a business owner of Gerdes Plaining Lumber Mill and Lon's Gun shop with her then husband Lonnie Gerdes. Betty went on to manage Bonanza/ Broadway Fashions for approximately 10 years. In 1992, she became the owner operator of Precious Moments Day Care, where she provided childcare for many children for 23-years. She was known as "Grandma Betty" to several hundred children. She gave them unconditional love while teaching them how to be affectionate while in her care throughout the years. Betty's hobbies included dancing, listening to music, fishing, camping, trips to the casino and cooking for her family (always making good food, and bringing everyone to the table). Throughout her life Betty was an amazing seamstress/tailor making school uniforms and altering many wedding dresses. Betty was an avid San Francisco 49er and a big Patrick Mahomes fan. Wherever she was, she was the life of the party she loved pranking and joking with her family and friends. Mom/Grandma Betty is loved and will be missed by ALL.
Services will be conducted on Monday November 6, 2023, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Rosary beginning at 9:00am, with Funeral mass directly following, burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery on 8th street extension. Serving as Pall Bearers, Joseph (JD) Lucero, Adam Lucero, Matt Griego. Diego Ciddio, Ryan Turner, Brandon Bell and Stephen Giddens.
