Betty C. Maestas, 62, passed away on March 27, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on November 12, 1962, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the joy of sharing her love through food.
Betty grew up in Las Cruces surrounded by a large and loving family. After marrying, she moved to Wagon Mound, New Mexico, and later made her home in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Throughout her life's journey across these cherished places, Betty remained deeply connected to her roots and the people who meant the most to her. A devoted Catholic, Betty found strength and peace in her faith. She was known for always praying her rosary and holding steadfast to the spiritual traditions that guided her daily life. Betty's heart was most at home in the kitchen. Cooking was not just a pastime—it was an expression of love. Her tortillas and cookies were legendary among those who knew her best. Whether preparing meals for holidays or simply sharing a warm plate with friends and family, Betty's food brought people together and created lasting memories.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Lupe and Mary Chavez. And her siblings; Rudy Chavez, Bobby Chavez, Bertha Chavez, and Jimmy Chavez.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cassandra and Cevastian Maestas; her boyfriend Felipe Flores and family, and her siblings; Lupita and Mark Ewing of Las Cruces; Mary Lou and David Hildebrandt of Michigan; Sammy Chavez of Las Cruces; Manny Chavez of Las Cruces; Peter Chavez of Las Cruces; Debbie and David Meisner of Idaho; Martha of Arkansas; Esther Adam of Las Cruces; Freddy Chavez of Las Cruces; Alice Cluff of Arizona; and Jenny and Gilbert Escalante of Doña Ana.
Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM beginning with a Rosary at 9:00 am followed by Mass of Christian burial officiated by Fr. Rob Yaksich. Interment to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Wagon Mound, NM.
