February 27, 1931 – January 9, 2023
Canuto Lobato Jr., passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022, in Las Vegas, NM. He was born to Canuto and Mary Lobato in Santa Fe, NM.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1950 where he served his country with bravery and honor during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat and courageously returned to battle. He was honored with several medals including two Purple Hearts, Korean War Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal to name a few.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Canuto and Mary Lobato, brothers, Max Lobato, Mariano Lobato, Arturo Lobato, sisters, Cecilia Griego, Isabel Ortega, Christine Quintana, Bernie Lobato, Sara Howland, brother-in-law Mike Arguello, Aunt Angie Pacheco, his mother-in-law Esperanza Guadalupe Vigil and father-in-law Jose Raphael Vigil.
He was raised in East Palace and was one of seventeen children. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Brendaleigh Lobato. He is survived by his loving wife, Brendaleigh Lobato, children, Azulema Lobato, Jose Lobato, Raphael Lobato, grandchildren, Aneliza Lobato and Eli Cressler Lobato, siblings, Tony Lobato (Sandra), Dolores Lobato, Cleo Portillo, Steve Lobato, and Pricilla Duke, goddaughter, Eleanor Lobato, sister-in-laws, Josephine Vigil and Elaine Martinez (Walter), brother-in-laws, Ramon Vigil and Johnny Arguello (Juanita), special niece, Hope Vigil, aunt-in-law, Mary Alice Herrera (Joe), and uncle-in-laws, Manuel and Casimiro Pacheco, and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Some of his greatest achievements and moments were serving his country with valor, meeting his wife, raising a loving family, and watching his grandchildren grow up. He will be dearly missed but he will continue to watch over his family from above.
A rosary will be held in Santa Fe, NM at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi on January 12, 2023, at 10:00 AM. A second rosary will then be held at San Juan Bautista Church in Los Hueros, NM on January 13, 2023, at 5:00 PM. The funeral mass will be the following day on January 14, 2023, at San Juan Bautista Church in Los Hueros, NM at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest following the funeral mass at a family burial plot in Los Hueros, NM. The following will serve as Pallbearers: Raphael Lobato, Azulema Lobato, Aneliza Lobato, Eli Cressler Lobato, Raymond Vigil, and Mariva Encinias.
