CARLA ARELLANES
(July 29,1960- July 25, 2022)
Carla "Lala" Arellanes, 61 of Las Vegas, New Mexico, danced her way to heaven on Monday,
July 25, 2022. Her spirit and legacy is carried on by her two daughters, five grandchildren,
mother, three siblings, many nieces and nephews, extended family and countless friends. Carla
naturally befriended anyone who crossed her path. Her compassion, bright smile, contagiously
positive personality and overall accepting demeanor welcomed and embraced anyone from all
walks of life.
She was a fighter and her biggest fight was breast cancer and she beat it. She was proudly
thirteen years cancer-free. She cherished and loved being a grandma above all. She was
always making TikToks with her grandchildren, cheering the loudest at cheer competitions,
wrestling matches, football games, and cheers-ing and laughing with her friends and family. She
also loved baking, especially with her grandbabies for family functions.
When Carla wasn't on grandma-duty, you could find her at a political function and campaigning
to elect great leaders. She was a lifelong Democrat who took great pride and honor
representing New Mexico as a 2-time national DNC delegate and politico. Carla traveled cross
country to Washington DC to join the first-ever Women's March. After retiring in 2010 from the
New Mexico Department of Transportation and serving as a corporate board member for the
Las Vegas Health Trust, Carla channeled all her time to making memories with her friends and
family.
Carla was preceded in death by her father Carlos Gallegos, Sr., maternal grandparents, Charlie
and Lucy Rudolph; paternal grandmother, Mary Montaño; niece, Chantel Chavez. She is
survived by her mother, Juliette Gallegos; her daughters, Lynette Arellanes and Lindsey
Cavazos (Enrique); grandchildren: Mia Bailey, Marley, Bronx, Ryatt, and Jett Cavazos; siblings:
Ralph Gallegos, Cathy Lucero (Chuck), Carlos Gallegos, Jr. (Janet); nieces and nephews:
Desiree Mitchell (Aaron), Brianna and Tori Gallegos, Christian Lucero, Daniel Chavez, Carlos
Gallegos III, Prynce and Preston Mitchell; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many
friends who she considered family.
