Carlos Leo Martinez, 73, a resident of Sapello passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born in Las Vegas, on February 20, 1950, to Viola Martinez and Frutoso Martinez.

Carlos attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School for 8 years. Later he attended Robertson High School graduating in May 1968. Following High School, he went to work for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad from 1969-1971. He started at the train station in Las Vegas as a clerk and then was transferred to Ulysses, Kansas. In 1971, he returned home to help his family run the Midway Grocery Store in Sapello.

Carlos loved collecting stamps, coke cola and sports memorabilia, caps, whatever he could get his hands on. His favorite past times were fishing, camping, gardening, ranching, spending time with his family, and visiting with his friends and neighbors as they stopped at the Midway Grocery Store for their favorite snack, beverage, or just to hear the latest news from around the communities.

Carlos is preceded in death by his son, Angelo Manuel Martinez.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bernice Martinez of Sapello, daughter; Marianela Martinez (Felicia)of Las Vegas, sons; William Quintana (Angela) of Anton Chico, Carlitos (Danelle), of Las Vegas; Leo Martinez of San Leandro, Calif., grandchildren; Felicia, William Jr., Antoinette, Marisa, Lorina, Joshua, Carly, Laci, and Jaci. Sister; Josephine Martinez (Michael) and brother Orlando Martinez (Frances). Numerous nephews and nieces. Cousins; Lorraine Martinez (Carlos), Theresa Chacon (Manuel) of Rociada; and other relatives and friends and numerous Godchildren.

Rosary service will be held 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13 also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Fr. Rob Yaksich as celebrant. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Sapello. Serving as Pallbearers are Armando Martinez, Nathaniel Martinez, William Jr. Quintana, Lito Romero, Bob Lizarraga and Diego Martinez.
