Cecilio I. Gurule, 86, passed on to eternal life on February 13, 2024. He was born on August 14, 1936 to Cecilio R. Gurule and Agustina Olguin who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his wife, Rita; biological daughter, Marti Gurule; stepson, Leon Hayes; step granddaughter, Mary Karla Kemm; and his brothers and sisters: Damacio Sena, Jose Gurule, Felipita Maes, Rosie Padilla, Celina Quintana, and Ned Sena.
Cecilio married Rita M. Garcia in 1978 and they enjoyed life together for 39 years. He loved dancing with his wife and visiting family and friends. He and Rita could be found at the Sunday Senior Dances at the VFW in Las Vegas, NM; when her health declined you could still see them there listening to the music and visiting with friends. Cecilio and Rita were invited to lead many marchas for weddings and anniversaries. He enjoyed attending family gatherings and going out to eat, and frequently did so with his Garcia and Kemm family.
Cecilio is survived by Rita's family, including stepdaughter, Connie Kemm (Alfred) and stepson, Edward Garcia (Martina). Also surviving him are Step Grandchildren; Alfredo Kemm (Jennifer), Damian Kemm (Georgina), Denette Herrera, Dennis Garcia, Anthony Garcia, Craig Stewart (Nikki), Maurice Marks (Lee Ann), and Isabella Cuny. Henry Hayes (Diana), Robert Hayes, Albert Hayes, Leon Hayes, Jr., Step Great-Grandchildren; Gabriela Kemm, Marisa Kiesecker (Will), Raquel Kemm-Hobbs (Steven), Tristan Kemm (Syranda), Aidan Kemm, Olivia Kemm, Axton Garcia, Zechariah Garcia (Alexis), Miranda Herrera, Josiah Herrera, Valentino Garcia, Santiago Garcia, Brandon Stewart, Michael Stewart, Caiden Stewart, Dominic Stewart, Kaleb Stewart, Oceana Marks, Angelo Cuny, Scott Hayes, Keith Hayes, Joe Hayes, Raychel Hayes, Angalo Hayes, Anna Hayes, and Leon III. Four Step Great-Great-Grandchildren; Killian Hobbs, Persephone Hobbs, Kiyla Garcia, and Adonis Garcia. He also considered a very dear person who was there for him in his many times of need while he was living in Las Vegas, Jennifer Hooper, as an "adopted" granddaughter, and her children, Bryan and Jada as "adopted" great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Isabel Gonzales, and biological children; Andrea Bonney, Velma Quintana, Juan Rubio, and their immediate families.
A Rosary service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 4:30pm at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM.
Interment will follow at 2:00pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM with full honors.
