Celia S. Maestas left this earth on April 11, 2025 to join her loving family in heaven at the age of 95

She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother Pantaleon and Maria Sandoval, brothers Silviano, Andres and Alejandro and sisters Georgia and Carolina. She was also preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Maestas.

Celia will be remembered for operating the Bernal store which began with a grocery store, liquor store and gas station. She quit school in the 8th grade to help operate the store. In her later years she gave up her liquor license and gas station and serviced the people of Bernal with cigarettes, soft drinks, candy, ice cream and basic staples. She always looked forward to seeing everyone and always stated that was what kept her going. She will be remembered for her strength and unshakable personality. Her remaining nieces and nephews will forever remember that Celia's home was the place to meet for many beautiful family reunions and a climb up to Starvation Peak. To all the residents of Bernal and surrounding areas please know that it was you that gave our Aunt Sally the desire to get up every morning and to wave to you from her chair in the kitchen. Thank you for your patronage and for being her friend. Our Aunt Celia will forever live in our hearts and prayers.

Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 9:30am funeral mass will follow and both services will be held at the Santa Rita Church in Bernal, NM with Father Vincent Dominguez as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Rita Cemetery in Bernal, NM.
