“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Celina Duran-Vigil announces her passing on October 28, 2026, at the age of 89.

Celina was born on September 29, 1937, in Rainsville, New Mexico, to Mauricio Duran and Mariquita Rivera. A lifelong resident of Rainsville, she was a woman of extraordinary faith, strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Above all else, Celina was a faithful servant of God. Her love for Jesus was not something she kept to herself. Wherever she went and whomever she encountered, she joyfully shared the message of His love, mercy, and saving grace. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life, guiding her through both life’s blessings and its challenges.

Among the many scriptures she treasured, one she often quoted during difficult times was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” These words reflected the strength, perseverance, and trust in God that defined her life.

In 1958, Celina married Ruben Vigil, with whom she shared more than 65 years of marriage until his passing on January 11, 2024. During the final years of Ruben’s life, Celina lovingly cared for him, demonstrating through her actions the depth of her devotion and the selfless love that was so much a part of who she was.

Coming from a generation of strong and resilient women, Celina carried that strength with grace and determination. She possessed a remarkable work ethic and, even after retirement, continued working part-time until April 2026. During her final years of employment, she worked at the Mora Senior Center, a place that brought her tremendous joy. She treasured her coworkers and especially enjoyed visiting and sharing conversations with the seniors who gathered there.

Celina had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. When she laughed, her eyes would crinkle into little half-moons and sparkle with joy. She loved visiting with people, sharing stories, and watching Korean dramas. Her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit will always be remembered.

She also found happiness in life’s simple blessings. She enjoyed baking cakes for her church, canning, and spending time with her beloved little dog, Chuchi.

Family was at the very heart of Celina’s life. Her love extended far beyond her immediate household. She cherished her siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Each held a special place in her heart.

Perhaps one of Celina’s most beautiful qualities was her ability to extend kindness to everyone she met. She did not reserve her compassion for a select few. She treated people from all walks of life with warmth, dignity, and genuine care. In a world that often needs more kindness, Celina offered hers freely.

For her family, some of the most treasured memories will always be the simplest ones: sitting together, sharing conversations about everyday life, watching a favorite Korean drama, and simply enjoying the comfort of being in her presence. These ordinary moments were extraordinary gifts, and their memory will be cherished forever.

Celina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ruben Vigil; her parents, Mauricio Duran and Mariquita Rivera; and her siblings, Jane Bonilla, Clara Rodarte, and Faye Duran.

She is survived by her loving children, Jeffrey Vigil (Julie), Angelica Rodriguez, and Ruby Hernandez (Russ); her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Vigil, Eric Rodriguez, Jordan Vigil, Andrew Jimenez, and Emily Jimenez; and her precious great-grandchild, Caleb Jimenez.

She is also survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Montoya, Morris Duran, Judy Almanza, and Sharon Orozco, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know and love her.

While her family grieves her earthly absence, they find comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, the Savior she loved so deeply and faithfully proclaimed.

Celina’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, the kindness she extended, the faith she shared, the laughter she brought, and the love she gave so freely.

Her family will forever cherish the blessing of having been loved by such an extraordinary woman.

A celebration of Celina’s life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Access Church in Mora, New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Access Church in Mora, New Mexico, in honor of Celina’s lifelong devotion to her faith.
