Celsa S.
Rubio
November 30, 1930 – July 16, 2024
Word has been received of the passing of a longtime iconic business woman of Las Vegas.
Celsa S. Rubio, longtime owner of the Music Album on the Plaza, passed away at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO, on July 16, 2024. Celsa was born in Las Vegas on November 20, 1930, to Charles and Josephine Sacoman. She attended local schools and met and married Arthur E. Rubio on June 2, 1949. They bought the historic Pueblo Style Museum in 1947 and converted it to a bustling music store known as the Music Album.
Shortly after, her husband took a job at the NM Department of Transportation, and she took over management of all operations of the store. Under her care, the business became a full-service retailer known far and wide to many famous and local musicians from in and out of state. She would help the beginning musicians to the professional musicians.
Besides being a successful business woman, Celsa (as she was known) tutored many students from NMHU on their way to receiving their degrees. Years after graduating, many of those students frequently stopped in to give their thanks to her for helping them.
The Music Album has been in operation for 81 years, one of the longest serving family-owned business in the area. Celsa could recall great stories of the Plaza-area business owners from years back. They shared many happy memories of the Plaza area businesses. She was especially fond of the fact that Byron T. Mills (Historic Plaza Hotel) attended her wedding. She exclaimed, "He was the tallest person there!" All of those business owners preceded her in death. She worked her store until her passing, a dedicated servant to her customer base. In addition to serving as a mentor and supporter of musicians, she was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Celsa is preceded in death by her husband Arthur, son Enrico, parents Charles and Josephine Sacoman, and numerous brothers. She is survived by her son Raul Richard, brothers Bill (Mary) Sacoman and Fred (Gloria) Sacoman, sisters-in law Norma Sacoman and Pat Sacoman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Celsa's request, no services will be held. She will join her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10:30am.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM, 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
