Cheryl Vigil, age 44, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on June 30, 1981, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Gloria Strahl and Humberto Urrutia Alvarado, she lived a life full of compassion, creativity, and dedication to making others feel beautiful inside and out.
From a young age, Cheryl had a passion for beauty and helping others feel confident. After graduating from Robertson High School, she pursued formal training at Vogue College of Cosmetology, earning her license as a professional cosmetologist in 2002. For over 20 years, Cheryl worked as a cosmetologist in Las Vegas, where she built lasting relationships and friendships with clients who became like family. Known for her talent, she had a gift not only for transforming appearances but also for uplifting her clients' spirits. Many would say their appointment was as much therapy as it was beauty care.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Strahl; her grandparents, Ruben and Brenilda Garcia, Santiago and Petra Urrutia Alvarado, and her nephew Tim Strahl Jr.
Cheryl is survived by her loving spouse, Dale Vigil; her father, Humberto Urrutia Alvarado (Maxine); her brother, Tim Strahl (Louise); her sister, Sonya Barela (Lawrence); her aunts and uncle, Bernice Ortega (Ben), Viola Martinez (Levi), Leo Garcia, Andrea Walten (Jim), and Lilia Urrutia; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Juan and Dolores Vigil; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kenny and Melissa Vigil; Gabriel and Sandy Gonzales; her nephews, Justin, Jason, Benito, Mateo, Diegomarcos, Carlos, Jacob, Joshua, Cody, Bryce, Cory, Zachariah, and Alexander; her nieces, Tiffany, Vanessa, Angelica, Ariana, Haven, Bailey, and Violet; as well as numerous cousins and extended family members.
Cheryl may have left this world too soon, but the beauty she created — both seen and unseen — will live forever. She enhanced the outer beauty of so many, but it was her inner beauty that truly transformed lives. Her legacy will continue to glow in every heart she touched.
The Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 7:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 27 2026, at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Interment will follow at the St. Anthony Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following Serving as pallbearers will include Derrick (DJ) Duran, Benito Vigil, Mateo Vigil, Diegomarcos Vigil, Carlos Gonzales, and Jacob Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua and Cody Gonzales; Zachariah and Violet Arguello; and all remaining nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
