Chris Montoya, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 29, 2025.

He was born on April 25, 1939 in San Jose, NM to Jesus and Luisa Montoya.

Chris was a strong working man who enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Jesus and Luisa Montoya; sister: Fermina Tafoya; great granddaughter: Nikki Romero and Justin Smith who was like a grandson to him.

Chris is survived by his life partner of 47 years Alice Romero; children: Frances Salazar (Jose), Robert Romero and Lorenzo Romero (Monica). Chris leaves behind treasured memories for his grandchildren, Stacy Romero, Kevin Romero, Evin Romero, Richard Romero and Felisha Romero. Great grandchildren Hailie Smith and Cairo Kuhlman along with countless loving family member and friends.

Funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid next to rest besides his great granddaughter, Pallbearers will be Stacy Romero, Jasmine Romero, Kevin Romero, Evin Romero, Richard Romero and Robert Romero. Honorary pallbearers will be Jose Salazar and Lorenzo Romero.
