Obituary

Christopher B. Benavidez, age 65 died peacefully at home on July 31, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1961 to Gloria and Bennie Benavidez in Las Vegas, NM. Christopher dedicated many years of his life to the New Mexico Department of Transportation. He later continued his service with Santa Fe County, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator where he retired. He took great pride in his strong work ethic.

Christopher is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers baby Michael and Jose, Benito Benavidez, his nephews Eloy and Lloyd, “Tino” Gonzalez, John Duran, Gilbert Montoya, great grandnephew Anthony Jaramillo. Also his grandparents Isacc and Sophia Gold, Uncles Gilbert and Frank, Steve and Orlando Gold, Aunt Mary Lou. Along with niece April Duran, mother of his children Lydia Benavidez and Mother-in-law Estefanita Duran.

He is survived by his children, Sonya Jaramillo (Gilbert), Estevan Benavidez and grandson Andes Benavidez. His sisters Cathy Gonzales (Moises), Janie Vigil (Pablo), Jennifer Yara-Zelenskyi (Andy) and Joshua Vigil. As well as Shirley (Esther) Montoya, Audra Pacheco, (Christopher) Ron Montoya (Cassandra), Donna Benavidez, Issac Ortiz (Rhianna) Shannon Ortiz (Alejandro), Elizabeth Benavidez (Paul) Desiree. Other survivors: Ashley, Brianna Romero and Janette Benavidez, Anthony Jaramillo (Naomi), Raymond Martinez, brother Michael Benavidez (Natalie).  Along with Joseph, Miquella, Dezirae Benavidez (Vince) and Devynne (Richard).  His brother in-laws Manuel (Mary Agnes), Ernesto (Evelyn) and Danelle Duran.  Other family members: Ernest (Pricilla), Ernesto Duran (LeAnn), Margaret Hidalgo (Mark) and Johnny Duran. He was a beloved uncle and great uncle who was dearly loved by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Rosary services will be held on August 12, 2026 at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be August 13, 2026 at 9:00 am. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Burial of cremains will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM.
