Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Christopher Montoya, lovingly known as C-Mo, Pops, Lieutenant Montoya, The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Chris, a loving Father, Stepfather, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Godfather, Cousin, Son, Friend, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on November 3, 2024 at the age of 47.

Chris was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 3, 1977. He worked at the Penitentiary for the State of New Mexico for 28 years. He was well respected, a true leader, and a great friend. Chris was very devoted to his job and always made sure everything and everyone was in order even if they didn't like it. Chris worked long hours and long weeks. He always said he was always putting in that OT to take care of his expensive daughters' taste and needs. He leaves the Penitentiary as a Lieutenant. And if you know him, you better address him as LT.

He is survived by his parents, Nazario and Pamela Montoya, his Daughter Krysta Montoya, Stepdaughter Amanda Romero, Grandson Cayson Shoemaker, Sisters, Heather Montoya and Misty Lovato, and Brothers Mark and Matthew Montoya. Chris was a loving Nino to his Goddaughter Taylah. She was his pride and joy. Chris is also survived by his nieces and nephews Brittany, Mark Jr, Candace, Matt Jr, Jeanine, Kiana, Jasmine, Gordo, Mckenzie, Bentley, Jameson, Ocean, Lane, Brooklynn, and Noah. He had such a special relationship with all of them. Family was always his number one priority.

He was a devoted loving father and lived for his daughters. He was always there for them and talked about them constantly. Although they drove him crazy and caused his gray hairs (the hair he didn't have), he would do absolutely anything for them. His daughter Krysta, his twin, was his greatest Gift. He was so proud of her. Chris' next greatest addition was his 6-month-old grandson, Cayson Shoemaker. He told his daughters, once his grandson was here it was over for them, they were cut off. Cayson was so loved and spoiled by his Pampo Chris.

Chris loved going to concerts, loved listening to country music, and was always the jokester in the room. Chris' loving, giving heart will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He left a mark on all of those hearts he touched.
