Cleo Romo Rogers, 96, was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ with her daughter Claudine and granddaughter Jeannae by her side on November 7, 2025.
Cleo was born on March 6, 1929, in Mora, NM to Miguel and Delfina Romo. She attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Las Vegas, NM. She worked over 40 years in public service with the federal government as a key punch operator on the first computer located at New Mexico Highlands University and as a telegraph operator during the Cuban Missile Crisis providing classified information and communicating with the federal government daily and at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of the U.S Department of Agriculture. This experience led her into politics where she was elected San Miguel County Assessor in 1988 serving three terms before retiring in 1998. Upon her retirement she remained very involved with the democratic party of San Miguel County. As her outings became limited, she continued politicking by making phone calls to her many friends. Cleo was a lifelong catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception Parish.
Cleo was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children Claudine Martinez (Billy), Larry Rogers (Cheri), and Terry Rogers (Dan), grandchildren Jeannae Leger, Cinthia Martinez (Sergio), Jennifer Muniz (David), and Joshua Martinez. Great-grandchildren Justin and Marisa Gurule; Iliana, Aiden, and Amara Muniz. Siblings Luis Romo, Pauline (Richard) Rindone, Ignacio (Frances) Garcia and brother-in-law Gabriel Sanchez. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including the Leger family whom she considered part of her immediate family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Delfina Romo; husband Leroy Rogers; father of her daughter Claude A Leger who passed away in 1953; special aunt whom she considered a second mother, Rose Garcia; sisters Isabel Davey, Nisha Cassidy, Eliza Tenorio, and Dolores Sanchez; brothers Pablo and Vicente Romo and Carlos Garcia.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday, November 16th at 5 pm, funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 17th at 10 am both at Immaculate Conception Parish in Las Vegas, NM. Burial services will be held Tuesday, November 18th at 1 pm at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Serving as pallbearers are Marcus Garcia, Bobby Keiner, Philip Leger Jr., William Leger, Michael Murphy, Anthony Ortiz, and Larry Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Ignacio Garcia, Philip Leger Sr., Phyllis Oblack, Alexis Rindone, and Claudia Romero.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cleo's memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish in Las Vegas, NM.
