Dahlia Montoya Romero passed away at the age of 81 on Aug. 22, 2024. She was strong, beautiful, incredibly intelligent, creative, and patient. She was a dedicated and hard worker, and she expected no less of those around her.

Dahlia grew up in Rociada. She knew how to drive a truck at 10, how to slaughter a cow, how to sew a dress with a zipper and how to make the best red chile. As a teenager, she worked in a retail store in her hometown of Las Vegas, NM as a gift wrapper. She said the most challenging gift she ever had to wrap was a saddle.

She attended Robertson High and Highlands University. She completed her bachelor's degree in business at World University in San Juan, P.R. and had a successful career with the federal government, including the U.S. Army as well as the Veteran's Affairs Office in Albuquerque. She was married to Chris Romero (Mora, NM) for 32 years and they had one child. Dahlia's life took her from New Mexico across the United States and beyond. From Maryland, Delaware to Machu Picchu in South America, she never shied away from going on a good road trip. But she always came home to the mountains of northern New Mexico. She loved enchiladas, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chris, her grandmother, Victoria Quintana, and her parents, Ben and Stella Montoya.

Dahlia is survived by her daughter, Vikki; son-in-law, Lance; granddaughter, Erica; her siblings, Jean, Katy, Dora, Virginia, Lilly, Leroy and Ernest.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Rogers Mortuary Chapel in Las Vegas, NM.
