Obituary

Daniel J. Garcia, 57, a resident of Las Vegas and Ocate, NM, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023. He was born in Cleveland, NM, on October 8, 1966, to his parents Leo Garcia and Aurora Garcia.


Daniel graduated from Wagon Mound High School and New Mexico Highlands University with a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry. Daniel proudly served in the United States Army with the 52nd Engineer Battalion in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Daniel enjoyed playing basketball with his brothers, where they won six Hoop It Up championships and many other titles. Daniel later became an avid pool player, where he played with his son, Erik, at the Eagles, where they won tournaments and enjoyed their time together. Daniel was a master electrician, a trade he learned in the military, and a jack of all trades, with skills that he would use to help his family, friends, neighbors and anyone that needed help. He enjoyed building with rock and wood and created many projects that will live on showing his creativity and skill. Daniel was tenacious in anything he did and will be remembered for his hard work and love for his family and his love of loyal dog companions, Maya and Jesse.


Daniel is preceded in death by his grandfather, Jose Garcia, who he cared for at his home until he passed away, and his father, Leo Garcia. He is survived by his son, Erik Garcia of Las Vegas, NM and ex-wife Sandra Garcia of Vallecitos, NM; mother, Aurora Garcia of the family home in Ocate, NM; brothers: Paul Garcia and wife Louisa of Ocate, NM; Mark Garcia of Albuquerque, NM; Thomas Garcia and wife Vanessa of Ocate, NM; Matthew Garcia and wife Michelle of Las Vegas, NM; and many nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and many friends.


Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at Rogers Mortuary Chapel. Interment will take place at the Garcia Cemetery in Naranjos, NM, with the following serving as Pallbearers; Paul Garcia, Mark Garcia, Thomas Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Lucas Gallegos and Leon Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers are his military brothers of the 52nd Engineer Battalion and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
