Diane T. Garcia-Herrera passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 73. A lifelong resident of Las Vegas, she was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher. Born in 1951 to Herman and Corrine Garcia, she was the second of their five children. She was a graduate of Robertson High School, Class of 1969. She attended New Mexico Highlands University, where she received her BA in Business Education in 1974 and an MA in Instructional Leadership in 1984. She spent a life time in Education, having taught at multiple schools and devoting her time to her students through various programs. She touched many lives through the years, leaving an impact on everyone she met. She was an avid writer, a lover of SyFy and reality TV, and a supporter of the Denver Broncos. She was devoted to her family, who she loved without limit. She cherished every minute spent with her daughter and grandchildren, and always found time to talk to her siblings. She and her husband, Ernest P. Herrera of California, were active members of Elks Lodge 408 for many years.
Resolute in her beliefs, she lived life according to her terms. A true force of nature, she will be greatly missed by her only child, Camille and husband Eric Apodaca; grandchildren: Ryan and Erica Apodaca; one sister: Loretta Chavez; one brother: Phillip Garcia and wife Annette; one sister-in-law: Elizabeth Garcia; one aunt: Aurelia Montoya; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 9:00am both services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Dennis Garcia as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM.
