Dominic "Donnie" Montoya
Donnie's sunrise was May 23, 1971 - Sunset June 7, 2026. He passed away unexpectedly at Christus St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was born in Las Vegas, NM to Carlos and Esther Montoya.
He served 20 years in the Army National Guard, where he achieved the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge. He retired in 2008. Following his retirement, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family.
Donnie was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Lobos Basketball fan. He attended every home game for the Lobos for the last 4 years. He enjoyed car shows, and had a spectacular collection of cars, in fact, the day before his passing, he participated in a car show in Red River. He was a softball/baseball umpire through the NMOA. He was a coach for Little League for the past 4 years. He was also a judge for professional boxing. He loved fishing, camping, going to bingo, horse races, and traveling. He was always willing to try new adventures with his love.
In May, he graduated from Luna Community College (Auto Collision Repair).
Donnie will be missed by his survivors: wife Judy and his service companion Smokey. His children: Dominique (Patrick), Donnica (Joseph), Santana, and Dominic. His grandchildren whom he admired, Kayleigh, DJ, Jeremy, Avah, Taylor, Jayce, and Sebastian. His parents: Carlos and Esther. Brothers: Danny (Yolanda), David (Adrienne), Sister: Debbie (Robert) Chavez. Nieces and nephews: Daniel (Vanessa) Montoya, Darren (Chanae) Montoya, Devin Montoya, Dion Montoya, Davisa Montoya, Davette (Bryan) Montoya, David Montoya II, Estevan (Victoria) Montoya, Naquita (Anthony) Monotya, Mariquita Montoya, Amaya Monotya, Roberta (Andrew) Romero, and Derek (Dolly) Chavez. Step Children: Vanessa and Jeffrey Sanchez.
Mother-in-law: Julia Maldonado and Andres. Sisters in law: Veronica Lujan (Dennis), Michelle Romero (Jorge), Sonia Nieto (Raul), Andrea Godinez (Juan), and their families. Aunts and Uncles: Mary Lou Montoya, Martha Pando of Denver, Gomie Roybal of Denver, Nino and Linda Montoya , Mel Castellano, Dorothy Crespin, Benny Montoya, Margaret Monotya, and all of their families.
Pallbearers will be: Johnny Martinez, Ramon Vialpando, Estevan Montoya, Roberta Romero, Darren Montoya, and Derek Chavez, Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren.
Celebration of life will be Friday, June 19, 2026 at Victory Life Church in Las Vegas, NM at 10:00am with Pastor Paul Hesch as celebrant, followed by interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:15pm.
