Edmundo P. Martinez, 89, of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully in his sleep. Edmundo was born in Costilla, NM. He graduated from Costilla high school and married his beautiful high school sweetheart, Evangeline Salazar. He was drafted into the army and served his country proudly. He graduated from NM Highlands University with a Business Education degree. Edmundo worked as a correctional officer at the NM State Penitentiary and with the Veterans Affairs at NM Highlands University. He went on to work in San Miguel County Government as Public Works Director and as County Manager. He also worked with the West Las Vegas School system as the Transportation Director and as an Assistant Superintendent.

Edmundo’s biggest accomplishment is his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He taught his children the importance of education, hard work, and having a strong work ethic. He treated all with respect and dignity and required the same of his children. He raised his children with patience, discipline and love. He turned several conversations into life lessons or teachable moments.

Edmundo was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Evangeline Martinez, parents Bolivar and Simodosea Martinez, sister Elsie Cisneros, and brother Joe Martinez.

Edmundo is survived by his four children David Martinez (Cathy), Diana Martinez-Gonzalez (Dave), Danny Martinez (Roberta), Richard Martinez (Concetta), his brother George Martinez (Ella), eight grandchildren Natasha, Alicia, David, Diego, Gabrielle, Cruz, Desiree, Isabella, 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends

Rosary will be held on July 13, 2026 at 7:00pm at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 14, 2026 at 10:00am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Following the mass, Internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:45 pm with the following serving as pallbearers are Ron Martinez, David Gonzalez, Diego Gonzalez, Cruz Martinez, Nick Romero and Christian Padilla.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Alta Vista Regional Hospital and to his family at Meadows Nursing home for the excellent and compassionate care provided to our father!
