Our beloved Eloy Herminio Maestas made his journey to heaven to meet his wife and two sons for eternal rest on Thursday, March 31, 2022. He was born on June 18, 1925 to Amadeo A. Maestas and Antonia Valdez. He married his wife Oclires in September 1946. He was a legend in his family; a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle, friend and decorated Navy veteran. He is preceded in death by his true love Oclires L. Maestas, and sons Stephen Eloy Maestas and Eddie Maestas. He is survived by his sons Lawrence Maestas of Buena Vista, Ernest Maestas of Buena Vista, Paul Maestas of Denver, Carlos Maestas and partner Angel Benavidez of Buena Vista, and daughter Shirley Romero of Buena Vista. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Eloy H. Maestas was a decorated Navy veteran serving his country with honor from 1944 to 1946. He served his country in one of the most prolific wars World War II. He was a front gunner on the USS Luzerne County (LST-902) was an LST-542 class tank landing ship built for the US Navy during World War II. Named after Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, she was the only U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name. Eloy was honorably discharged in 1946 to begin living his fairytale with his beautiful wife Oclires L. Maestas. They enjoyed a lifetime together and raised their family to settle in Buena Vista, New Mexico. Eloy will be dearly missed by his family and many friends he made during life.
