Obituary

Ernesto P. Herrera Jr., a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of his family. Ernesto was born on August 11, 1938, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Ernesto Herrera Sr. and Pauline Duran. The eldest of their six boys, Ernesto was a role model for his younger brothers, Paul, Isador, Alfonso, Frank, and Vincente.

Ernesto was raised with the love and support of his family, including his grandparents, Isador and Vicenta (Nina) Herrera, and shared a particularly close bond with his Aunt Phoebe Rangel, who was like a sister to him.

Ernesto proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran. During his service, he served aboard the USS Rochester (CA-124). His navy service was an important part of his life, and he carried great pride in having served his country.

Following his time in the Navy, Ernesto returned home to California and built a life centered around family and married his wife Fabiola Lucero Herrera. He was a devoted father to Diane Betchart (Steve) Lisa Marie Herrera, grandfather to Shannon Roper, Christopher W. Kusrow (Lina), Ashley Kusrow (DeMayo Henderson), and Alyssia Yezek and great-grandfather to William Henderson, Brianna Henderson, Ally Henderson, Elizabeth Roper, and Justin Roper who cherished the time he spent with those he loved. His family was one of the greatest joys of his life, and the memories he created with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to be treasured.

After the passing of Ernesto’s late wife Fabiola, he returned to Las Vegas, New Mexico where he met and married Diane Garcia. Ernesto Herrera is survived by Diane Garcia family, Camille and Eric Apodaca, and their children Ryan and Erica Apodaca.

Ernesto enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. He loved bowling, racquetball, and golf, and enjoyed traveling and going on trips. He was also involved in his community and was an active member of the Moose Lodge for many years. Later in life, he became a member of the Elks Lodge.

Ernesto was preceded in death by several beloved family members, including his wife and loved ones who went before him.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Among those who will cherish his memory are family members who were fortunate to experience his love, guidance, and presence throughout their lives.

Ernesto will be remembered for his love of family, his pride in serving his country, his enjoyment of life, and the many memories he created with those around him. His legacy will live on through the generations of family who loved him and will continue sharing his stories.

Ernesto P. Herrera Jr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

May he rest in peace.
