Ethelyn Alice
Barnett
September 19, 1936 – April 17, 2023
Ethelyn Alice Barnett was born to Art and Ethel Moritz in Clovis, NM on September 19, 1936 and passed away April 17, 2023 at her beloved mountain home near Las Vegas, NM. Ethelyn graduated from Clovis High School in 1954 and within a short time, caught the attention of William D. Barnett. They were married on December 31, 1955 and were blessed with three children. They loved and cared for one another for over 67 years. Ethelyn and Bill raised their family in Clovis for several years before moving to their ranch in the sandhills north of Portales. They lived there until 2001 when they moved to their mountain home that Ethelyn cherished. Ethelyn found expression for her love of nature and beauty as an accomplished artist. For quite some time, she shared her time and talents instructing weekly art classes at the Portales Senior Center. In later years, their mountain home afforded her a place of solitude and beauty where she could paint the birds and wildflowers she so enjoyed. Many of her cherished oil and watercolor paintings can be found in the homes of friends and family. Ethelyn was a faithful servant of Jesus. Throughout her life, she was a deacon's wife, an elder's wife, and she also taught numerous children's and ladies Bible classes at church and Camp Blue Haven. She and Bill were active with the Sojourners for many years, traveling in their motor home with other retirees to assist in various ministries and projects. She leaves a legacy of devotion and service as a Christian wife, mother, and friend. Ethelyn's inner beauty, gentle grace, and loving spirit will be missed by the many who loved her. She leaves many dear friends as well as her husband, Bill, of the home; her children Brenda (Len) Richey of Pagosa Springs, CO, Danny (Gale) Barnett of Palmer AK, and Jon (Shelley) Barnett of Clovis, NM, and her grandchildren: Anna (Jim Bob) Sides, Darin (Erin) Richey, Travis Richey, Kaitlen (Davey) Smith, Sabra (Chance) Billups, Nathan Barnett, and Jake Barnett. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Dustan, Clara, Ty, Diana, Hunter, Brooklen, Grayson, and Hattie.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:00am at Mountain View Church of Christ in Las Vegas, NM with Rod Billingsley as officiant.
