Eva Patricia
Ortiz- Roybal
April 15, 1946 – March 18, 2024
Eva Patricia Ortiz-Roybal was called to be with our Lord in the infinite love of everlasting life on March 18, 2024, due to complications following a brain aneurysm. Eva was a kind-hearted, gentle woman of faith, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her two children: Evonne (Steve) and Dave (Janine) and four grandchildren: Frank (Leena), Christopher (Adryanna), David, and Anastasia (Gilbert); and great-grandchildren: Frankie, Logan, Ayva, Gabriana, and Gilbert. She is survived by her brother Tony (Jenny) Ortiz; Sisters: Perlinda Ortiz-Reynolds, Rosemarie Romero, and Nora Trujillo also survived by her sister-in-law, Ruby Ortiz. Eva was preceded in death by her parents Pete A. Ortiz and Predicanda Ortiz, and brothers Pete and Carlos (Diane) Ortiz. Eva was born in her family home in Las Vegas, New Mexico on April 15, 1946, and was the youngest of seven. As a young girl, Eva was quiet and introspective, known to curl up and sleep in the most unlikely warm niches in the house. Eva attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School but spent her final year and graduated from Robertson High School. Going on to work various retail jobs, Eva's greatest commitment was as a mother who sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. Her character and temperament was patient and kind. Eva was a woman of faith who relied on her relationship with God to carry her through life's trials. Eva found joy in simple pleasures, she was generous and shared anything she had. Most especially she shared of her time, love, and care for her loved ones and friends. For several years in adulthood, she shared a home, cared for, and enjoyed a deep relationship with her mother, Predicanda. She helped raise her oldest grandchild, Frank, and celebrated the relationships she created with Frank, Christopher, David, and Anastasia and their families along the way. Eva had the joy of welcoming five great-grandchildren into the world and proudly boasted of how happy she was to know them. In most recent years, Eva expressed gratitude and enjoyed the many close friends she made with people in her apartment building. Everyone in the building held her in high-regard and she was often sought out for long chats and easy, heart-felt conversation. From childhood through to her very last moments she had a special place in her heart for the Blessed Mother, Jesus, and her guardian angels, and she prayed to them often. Eva's departure came as an unexpected shock to the family and her presence in our lives will be sorely missed. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Eva and her family as they moved through the last few months that Eva was in the hospital. Special thanks to Eva's nieces Diana, Doretta, Regina, and Alicia, and her nephew, Dennis, for helping to care for Eva. Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico, with a rosary on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 7:00pm and the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 9:00am. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Dave Roybal, Christopher Tafoya, David Roybal, Gilbert Arévalo, Dennis Garcia and Eugene Romero serving as pall bearers.
