Felix Ruben De La Riva passed away at home in Las Vegas, New Mexico on August 6th, 2026.

He was born on November 20th, 1957, in Las Animas, Colorado to Mary Antonia Palacio and Amador De La Riva. He is survived by his wife Debra; children Brandy De La Riva, Zachary De La Riva, Robin Lujan, and Erin Maestas; grandchildren Sarah De La Riva, Zabian Lujan, Ethan Lujan, and Emily De La Riva; siblings Alfred De La Riva, Armando De La Riva, Tony De La Riva, Carmela Vasquez, Norberta Salazar, Helen De La Riva, Mary Martinez, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his bother Johnnie De La Riva, his nephews Orlando Nelo De La Riva and Albert Collins Jr.

Felix joined the Marines in 1976 after graduating high school. He wanted to serve his country and see the world after growing up in a small town in southern Colorado. Felix moved to Las Vegas in 1982 after the birth of his first daughter Brandy. He took a job at Northeastern Regional hospital shortly after moving to Las Vegas. He began working for Comcast cable company a decade later in 1991. He spent the remainder of his career as a cable technician until his medical retirement in 2014. He was known to his community as “The Cable Man”.

Felix spent the later part of his life helping others less fortunate. He volunteered at his local soup kitchen, served Thanksgiving meals at the Sombrero, donated to charities including the Boobie Motorcycle Run. Felix was always willing to lend a hand. Among many other things he was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. Felix was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in April of this year. He fought hard to remain with his beloved wife and family. Unfortunately, God called for him before he could be healed.

Felix spent the last two decades of his life riding motorcycles. It was one of his greatest joys in life. Felix was a kind and humble man. He never hesitated to give to those in need, all he ever wanted in return was good conversation and laughter among friends. He was a beacon of kindness. He will be remembered for his silly jokes, mischievous personality, infectious laugh, and enormous heart. He will forever be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
