Floyd was born January 11, 1934, in Mora, NM. He was raised in a ranching and farming family. Floyd graduated from Mora High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard October 1954.

After completing his service in the US Coast Guard in October 1958, he was part of Individual Ready Reserves (IRR) until 1962.

Due to his passion for learning, he enrolled at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and graduated in June 1963 with a degree of Bachelors of Science in Education. He then began his teaching career at Washington Elementary School in Las Cruces, NM. He and his family moved to Santo Domingo School, NM and later transferred to Cochiti Elementary School where taught and retired in 1989 from the Bernalillo Public School District. He had great joy and pride in knowing that he had been part of empowering many young people in the communities which he served. In those communities he built lasting relationships and his life was forever enriched. While teaching at Cochiti, Floyd often refereed basketball games as well as umpired baseball games. He drove a school bus for the district and was recognized "for having the best kept bus in the district" 1989-1990.

Floyd was known for his outstanding service as chairman and member of the Board of Directors for Sandoval County Economic Opportunity Corporation from 1970-1975. Floyd was a rancher and a farmer. Floyd loved music. He always had a song to sing and was open to any opportunity to play his harmonica. Floyd was intrigued with history, especially the history of the Mora Valley which he was always ready to share.

Those who respect and love Floyd will always treasure the memories of his loving and caring heart. He will be missed for his adventurous nature, his inquisitive mind, and his strong disposition. His spirit will live on with the stories, traditions, and values which he imparted.
