Fred Richard Bustos (July 14, 1946 – May 20, 2024)
A hard-working, loving, and supportive man with a sense of humor that would surly leave a smile on anyone's face. Fred would be described as a selfless, loving, and hardworking man by anyone who knew him. He truly left an impression by helping those in need with no hesitation. If he wasn't at work, you would find him in the mountains splitting wood, in the fields bailing hay, or at home making improvements to his house and/or truck. Fred Richard Bustos (77) of Springer, New Mexico went peacefully from the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones, in Cañoncito due to his chronic illness on May 20th, 2024.
Fred was taken into care by his grandparents of the late Edubijes and Jose Luis Bustos at the early age of three due to the loss of his mother. Fred attended and graduated from Mora High School in May of 1966. Soon thereafter, he was drafted on October 7th, by the army to serve in Germany during the Vietnam War, until his discharge date of September 13th, 1968. While overseas, his first child, Connie Maestas, was born. July 5th, 1969, Fred joined Mary Helen Romero in marriage for thirteen years. Leadville was the birthplace of his two younger children, Richard Bustos and Frieda Bustos. Fred later earned his Associates in Auto Mechanics on June 12th, 1976, from Colorado Mountain College. Fred pursued a career as a diesel mechanic for the state of New Mexico Department of Transportation for twenty-three years. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Fred is proceeded in death by his life-long partner, Emma Casados of thirty-two years, parents, Daniel and Berlinda Bustos, grandparents, Edubijes and Jose Luis Bustos, siblings, Lorena Bustos, Mary Ellen Romero.
He is survived by his Siblings, Berta Archuleta, Carlos (Martha) Bustos, Danny (Maria) Bustos, Tony (Roberta) Bustos, and Johnny (Rita) Bustos, Children, Brenda Casados, Connie Maestas, Richard Bustos, and Frieda Bustos, Grandchildren, Catrina Romero, Lianna Casados, Cassandra Ferran, Derrick Bustos, and Conrad Romero, Great Grandchildren, Evette Salazar, Madison Romero, Jacob Vigil, Stefan Romero, Zayden Vigil, Damacio Romero, Annalicia Ferran, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special Friends, Benito Mondragon, Bob Mondragon, Robert Vigil, and George Trujillo.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held on Friday, May 31st, 2024, starting with the rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass. Services will be held at St. Gertrude the Great in Mora. Interment will follow at the San Rafael cemetery in La Cueva with Full Military Honors. Confessions will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
