Genevieve (Beva)
Rivera
July 20, 1928 – September 27, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and complete faith that we announce the passing of our mother, Genevieve (Beva) Rivera. At the age of 97, Beva took her last peaceful breath surrounded by family and engulfed in prayer on September 27, 2025.
Genevieve was born on July 20, 1928, in Rainsville, New Mexico, to Emilio and Francisquita Duran. Growing up in Rainsville, Beva attended school and learned her foundation of faith and selflessness. During her high school years, she resided in Santa Fe while attending Loretto Academy and graduated there. On November 28, 1947, she married her Husband Franciso A. Rivera. Together they welcomed six children into this world, raising them in Roswell and Albuquerque prior to returning to the family home in Rainsville, NM.
Throughout her whole life, Genevieve chose to serve others by being a cook at a hospital and opening her home as the Postmaster in Rainsville, but her lifework was being a caregiver ensuring she had a safe and loving home for all she knew and cared about. When her parents were no longer able to care for themselves independently, she moved them in with her. Her father passed away after a year and she devoted fourteen years to the care of her Mother. She then cared for her Husband and Sister among many others until the time of their deaths. Genevieve was the most amazing Grandmother, loving and caring for all of her Grandchildren, often all at one time during the summers. However, she often said she was lucky, and it gave her great joy to aid in helping to raise John and Jessica along with her consentidos, Anthony Jr. and Elyse.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francisco A. Rivera; Son, Anthony E. Rivera; Parents, Emilo Duran and Francisquita Cruz Duran; Siblings, Rosalia Guevara, Perfecto Duran and Nora Martinez; Son-In-Law George Boyce; Grandson, Ray Tweed and Great Grandson Xavier McDonnell.
She is survived by her children: Yolanda Boyce; Marino Rivera; Frances (Larry) Tweed; Patricia (Steve) Matejicka; Deborah (Antonio) Rivera; Daughter-In-Law Megan McCawley-Rivera. Grandchildren: Carmen Rivera; Diego (Monica) Rivera; Angelica Rivera; April Tweed, Larry Tweed II; John (Kristin) Tiernan; Jessica Tiernan; Gene (Brandie) Sandoval Jr.; Amanda (Angelo) Sandoval; Anthony Rivera Jr; Joshua (Hannah) Rivera; Joseph Rivera; 23 Great Grandchildren;13 Great Great Grandchildren; Sister, Josie Gonzales and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her Daughters, Frances and Deborah, for the nine years they devoted to not just caring for Genevieve, but providing her a second and third home where she was able to do the things she loved during her last years. Thank you to Anvoi Hospice for the compassionate care and love they showed her.
