George Joe Salas, a beloved son, brother, partner and uncle passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 in Las Vegas, NM.

Born on April 4, 1942, in Canoncito, New Mexico to Reymundo and Esmelia Vigil Salas.

He is survived by his brothers Felix Salas and Augustine Salas, his lifelong partner Jose “Leo” Montoya since April of 1967, whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, kindness, and an open door to anyone in need of comfort or companionship. Several nieces and nephews who will continue to cherish his memory.

George proudly served in the United States Army from October 4, 1962 through July 30, 1964, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal for his service to his country.

He brought so much joy to those around him through his music and jokes. He was always whistling or singing from the heart and always had a new joke ready for anyone who crossed his path. His sense of humor will be fondly remembered by family and friends.

A rosary will be cited on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Roger's Mortuary Chapel at 11:00am in Las Vegas, NM. Burial of cremains will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM.
