Gilbert Leroy Martinez, a beloved chef, teacher, and entrepreneur, passed away on June 3, 2023, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy. He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and son, whose passion for cooking, fishing, and music enriched the lives of those around him.

Born on July 18, 1959, Gilbert found his calling as a chef and dedicated his life to the culinary arts. He shared his culinary expertise with the students of Robertson High School and Luna Community College, leaving a lasting impact on aspiring chefs. Gilbert's dedication and talent led him to open two successful restaurants: GILBERT's Café and Adelia's Restaurant, as well as a thriving concession business that brought joy to countless events across New Mexico.

Family was of utmost importance to Gilbert, and he is survived by his loving son, GILBERT Martinez, his wife Jamie Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also survived by his son Greg Martinez, his daughter Ashley Martinez and her husband Salvador Patron, as well as Emilio Martinez, all residing in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Gilbert held a special place in his heart for the mothers of his children, Andrea Martinez and Patricia Crispín. He was a proud grandfather to granddaughters Monet Martinez, Brianna Martinez, Cassandra Patron, Sophie Patron, grandsons Isaac Martinez, Gregory Martinez, Ramon Patron, and a great-granddaughter Evianna Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a great-grandson Miguel Patron Allen of Las Vegas, New Mexico. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Martinez and Maryann Martinez of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and his brother Joseph Martinez of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Ramon Martinez, his mother, Gertrude Martinez, his brothers Ramon Martinez, Larry Martinez, Armando Martinez, Charles Martinez, as well as his niece Susan Martinez and his beautiful baby granddaughter Destiny Martinez. Though they have left this world, their memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved them.

In addition to his immediate family, Gilbert leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A rosary service, led by the Hermanos Cruzados, will be held in honor of Gilbert Leroy Martinez on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. A mass to celebrate his life will take place on June 15, 2023, at 9:00 AM. Following the service, Gilbert will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where he will find eternal peace.

During this time of remembrance, let us cherish the memories we shared with Gilbert, celebrating his remarkable achievements and the joy he brought into our lives. As we say farewell to a remarkable individual, let us take solace in the knowledge that his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
