Gilbert Herman Leyba was born and raised in Mora, NM until his death on January 30, 2024, following a sudden illness. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Mabel Leyba, nephew Justin Alcon, wife Patricia and mother of his son, Debbie. A child of God and devoted to the Santo Nino de Atocha, Gilbert was a member of St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. He was born on August 20, 1952 to Jose and Mabel Leyba.

He is survived by his children: Adam, Isaiah and partner Paula Duran and granddaughter Reannen; brothers: Lloyd, Francis (Lucille), Michael (Melinda); sisters: Lucille (Gabe), Margaret (Manuel), Iris (Dave), Wanda (Peter), Rachel and numerous nephews, nieces and uncles and aunts.

Herman, as he was known, was a proud and humble person who enjoyed hunting, fishing and any other sport that was outdoors which he loved. He worked carpentry all his life and created artistic pieces which he loved to share with family and friends. He had a sense of humor that would entertain anyone who would cross his path and he was loyal to his beliefs to the very end.

Cremation has taken place and Rosary service will be recited on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 9:00am funeral mass will follow both services will be at St. Gertrude Church in Mora, NM with Father Dale Craig as celebrant.

Burial of cremains will take place at San Antonio Cemetery in Cleveland, NM.
