Gilbert G. Lopez 72, passed away suddenly at his home on March 2, 2024. He was born in Las Vegas N.M. to the Late Pedro and Arselia Lopez on January 17, 1952. Gilbert was known to many as MacGyver, Covas, and Uncle Gillie. He was known for the work he did in the community for his plumbing business "Lopez Plumbing and Heating, and a jack of all trades. He served in the Army and attended New Mexico Highlands University where he got his associates of science, he also worked for West Las Vegas Schools, and Rio Rancho Schools. On his free time Gilbert loved to go to the Casino, and he loved being with family, he enjoyed helping others and spending time with his grandson Josiah, nephews Michael, and David working. He also loved going camping, and his weekend adventure rides with his granddaughter Denicia. Gilbert's longer than life presence will be missed by many.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Pedro, and Arselia Lopez, brothers Tony, Roger, Leroy, And Johnny Lopez, sister's Theresa, and Marie Lopez. Granddaughter Onyx Lopez.
Gilbert is survived by his children Amanda Tapia (Matthew), Gilbert A. Lopez, Roger Lopez (Elisa), Bobbie Lopez. Brother Michael Lopez (Consuelo), Sister Linda Lovato (Lalo), Grandkids Denicia, Josiah, Awnika, Micah Tapia, Madyson, Adrian, Aidan, Jade and Ebony Lopez, and one great grandchild Nikko Martinez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, and nephew, and all his friends that were like family.
Cremation has taken place and Rosary service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 7:00pm, funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 9:00am both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at the San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM. A gathering will be held at Pam's Ballroom after burial.
