Gloria Carmen Duran

June 20, 1933 – September 22, 2026

Gloria Carmen Duran, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old.

Gloria was born on June 20, 1933, in Wagon Mound, New Mexico, to the late Crestino Garcia and Regina Valdez. She was raised in Wagon Mound and later married the love of her life, Juan Duran. Together, they shared 72 years of marriage and built a beautiful life centered around family, faith, and love. They spent much of their life together in Las Vegas, New Mexico, before eventually making their home in Pecos, where they spent their later years.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan Duran; her son, Jessie Duran; her son-in-law, Adrian Quintana; her parents; and her siblings.

She is survived by her eight children: Maria Gomez; Diana Garcia (Bernie); Floyd Duran (Pauline); Eddie Roy Duran (Brenda Jo); Rosie Quintana (the late Adrian Quintana); Raymond Duran (Brenda); Christine Duran (Ernest); and Richard Duran. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Gloria will be remembered for her deep love of family, her generous heart, and her wonderful cooking. Her door was always open, whether to her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, an exchange student who became like a daughter, or anyone who simply needed a warm bed and a place to feel at home. No matter who came through her door, there was always room for one more.

As a devoted homemaker, Gloria took great pride in caring for her family and making sure anyone who visited her home was welcomed with a fresh, homemade meal. She also had a well-known sweet tooth and loved candy, fruit, and just about any snack she could tuck away in her drawer for later. She enjoyed working at the Pecos Drive-In and Kristina’s Restaurant, where she was especially known for her homemade pies.

Gloria loved sharing stories about her life and childhood with her family, passing along memories that will continue to be treasured for generations. She also enjoyed playing bingo and trying her luck at the casino. Along with her loving and caring nature, Gloria had a feisty spirit and was never afraid to show it when the occasion called for it. Her warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and spirited personality made Gloria uniquely herself and are among the many things her family will lovingly remember and deeply miss.

Above all, Gloria’s greatest joy was her family. The many generations she leaves behind are a beautiful reflection of the life she lived and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will live on through the stories shared, the meals prepared, the traditions carried forward, and the countless lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and a home where everyone was always welcome.

Services

A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pecos, New Mexico, followed by a eulogy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., with burial immediately following at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
